Congressional staffers seem to be having a bad time of it lately.

The latest in the California power crises . . . it seems the majority of the companies "gouging" California on utility prices were California public utilities. The cheapest power came from private power companies in Texas. The same people Gray Davis repeatedly accused of price gouging. Did Californians really elect this guy? The article is here. The more I learn about this the more convinced I am that California got themselves into this mess. And now they want my tax dollars to get them out. Not likely!

They are finally getting around to honoring the Navajo Code Talkers. They were at a White House ceremony this week and are getting a film made about them. The Navajo's were about the only US code used in WWII that the Japanese didn't break. You can read more about them here

Sick and tired of junk faxes? I have a fax number that feeds directly into my email. Every now and then I get a junk fax and it really annoys me. And it turns out that it's illegal to send unsolicited commercial faxes. Here's an article about a Hooters that lost a $12 million dollar lawsuit for sending marketing faxes. You can sue them for up to $500 per fax. I might just have a new hobby!

Kansas City is considering a light rail system. How totally outdated. At the very least they should put in a monorail. Or they should go all the way to the 21st century and install a Personal Rapid Transit system like the Taxi 2000. You can also find information at The Sky Loop and in this article out of Ohio. Surf the future!

Troubled by spam? Don't you wish you lived in Washington State. Their Supreme Court recently upheld a law prohibiting the falsification of return email address information on Unsolicited Commerical Email (UCE or SPAM). You can sue for $1,000 per message recieved. Here's a great article on how to sue and what results you might have. Plus you can get an email with a server in the state of Washington. The article says that $8.5 billion will be spent this year downloading SPAM. I'm curious how that number compares to the total revenue of all ISP's combined. Then again AOL says one-third of their email traffic is SPAM.

I've been trying to use Nero to burn Audio CD's from MP3's with no luck. They burned but sounded terrible. So I downloaded a little CD-burning plug-in for WinAmp. Problem solved. I was able to take a playlist and burn it onto a CD. It played in my car and sounded great!
