One of the latest "good" ideas we hear getting kicked around is a national identity card. Larry Ellison is a champion of this one. I'm sure the government will keep my information safe. Just like in Oregon. Where police seized a CD containing all the records of Oregon's registered drivers. At this point they don't know how many times it was copied or sold. Nice.

Linda, I use MusicCity.com instead to LimeWire or BearShare. Their web site is really slow right now though.

Time's 2001 Inventions of the Year is out. This is the stuff we'll take for granted in ten years. I'm getting in line for one of those artificial livers right now!

Now this really is priceless! Apparently the two guys that really travelled the country in a VW van visiting ballparks are suing Mastercard. It seems they a made a movie about their trip and the Mastercard commercials are very, very similar to their movie. Making really cool commercials: $100,000. Getting sued by the real people: Pricesless.

Some of you may remember the guy who appeared in a fake picture atop the WTC as a plane closes in. The "Internet" has dubbed him Tourist Guy. Apparently there a number of web sites about this guy but no one knew who he was. Google says there are 1700+ hits if you search on "WTC Tourist Guy". Wired published an article saying they had found him. Another web site received an email from a person claiming to be Tourist Guy. And this one included additional photos from the rooftop. More photoshoperry? You be the judge!

"I scream. You scream. We all scream for pork loin." I saw that on a truck this morning and thought it was pretty cool.

The new HP automated DJ dynamically makes music based on how you respond to what it's playing. Cool. I just with they'd release the darn thing already!

The Leonid Meteor show(er) is coming soon to a sky near you the night of November 17th. They say this will be the best show since 1966 and probably the best until 2099. Unfortunately the best time to watch is 4AM in Kansas City. Yikes!

The Taleban as been recruiting Muslims in England and elsewhere. Here's an account of one recruits experience. Not very flattering for the Taleban.

Salman Rushdie is back with an article titled "Yes, this is about Islam".
If this isn't about Islam, why the worldwide Muslim demonstrations in support of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda? Why did those 10,000 men armed with swords and axes mass on the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, answering some mullah's call to jihad? Why are the war's first British casualties three Muslim men who died fighting on the Taliban side?

Interesting counterpoint to what the media has been feeding us.

For a vast number of "believing" Muslim men, "Islam" stands, in a jumbled, half-examined way, not only for the fear of God - the fear more than the love, one suspects - but also for a cluster of customs, opinions and prejudices that include their dietary practices; the sequestration or near-sequestration of "their" women; the sermons delivered by their mullahs of choice; a loathing of modern society in general, riddled as it is with music, godlessness and sex; and a more particularized loathing (and fear) of the prospect that their own immediate surroundings could be taken over - "Westoxicated" - by the liberal Western-style way of life.?

This guy sure doesn't write flattering stuff about the Muslims. It is a fascinating read though.
