The UN in Sudan
The NYT has a scathing piece up on the failure of the UN in Sudan.  If the UN can't stop something like this what's it for?

More Oil-For-Food Badness

Annan is at it again.  Any respect I had for the UN is now down the tubes.  Of course I say that every few months.  I wonder if they can go negative on the respect-meter?  Hmmm.  Anyway the WSJ has an opinion piece up on the Money-For-Saddam, er Oil-For-Food program.  And I thought MY government was screwed up.  He calls our invasion illegal while the UN is help Saddam bypass it's own sanctions.  Bizarre.

My Government Sucks

It just sucks.  I'm just livid at the stupidity I see around me.  I shouldn't even read the news anymore.  It's not just John Ashcroft.  Janet Reno was certainly no better.  Let's start with the article on Doctors that prescribe pain medication.  I'm just speachless at this.

Shortly after that GAO report, Libby says, the Department of Justice identified prescription drug abuse as the “primary drug threat to the U.S. population,” and two years later put a plan in place to go after licensed doctors. Prescription drug abuse became a measurable, achievable way for the DEA to justify its budget. A federal prosecutor in Alexandria, Va., told the Washington Post at the time, “Our office will try our best to root out [prescription pain doctors] like the Taliban.”

“Like the Taliban.”  There go my tax dollars.  I'm friggin paying for this.  I'm not sure I'd suggest you read the article or not.  It just pissed me off.

I'll post more later.  I'm hungry and pissed -- and I'm sure those two are related.

On The Importance of Being Steve
I present to you the Morphology of Steve (pdf).  I'm going to have to consider changing the name of this site.  Apparently it's all about Steve.
